The programmatic emphasis for the Sunday before Labor Day is appropriately, Christian Vocation Sunday. Cultivate a culture of call in your own congregation by claiming our theological perspective of the priesthood of all believers. Ways of including this emphasis on call in the worship and activities of the congregation are included here.

Call to Worship

One: God calls a people
Many: to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
One: God calls a people
Many: to follow Jesus Christ in obedient discipleship.
One: God calls a people
Many: to use the gifts and abilities God has given, honoring and serving God in personal life, in household and families, in daily occupations, in community, nation, and world.
One: God calls a people to worship.

Unison Prayer of Confession

Loving God, through baptism you claim and name us, calling us to live as your people. We confess that our identity as your children is not always forefront in our minds as we make decisions in our work and in our play; in our thought and in our action; in our relationships. In your compassion, O God, free us from our desire to live independently from your grace-filled presence. Remind us of the holy living made available to us in daily life. As your children, may we live out our calling as Christians to serve you in every aspect of human life.  Amen.

Assurance of Pardon

Know that God is rich in mercy. God’s love was made known through Jesus Christ and it is through this love that we can rest in the promise of forgiveness. Children of God, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!
