About Enough for Everyone

Background

The majority of the world's population lives in poverty. According to the United Nations Development Program, over 19,000 children in Africa (and over 30,000 people worldwide) die each day due to poverty and causes related to international debt.

We are called by God in Christ to bring good news and to proclaim release to those held captive by human structures and injustices. Living as global disciples means evaluating our lifestyle choices both as individuals and as congregations. Adopting changes for congregational lifestyle integrity witnesses to our commitments to mission and justice for God's people and God's creation.

Enough For Everyone is about partnership:

  • partnership among Presbyterians in the United States with sisters and brothers in other countries
  • partnership among national programs of the PC(USA)
  • partnership among the PC(USA) and other organizations
  • partnership in local churches among various committees and calls to mission.

At the heart of Enough For Everyone is deep concern for global economic justice and a commitment to live out our faith in Jesus Christ with integrity.

The four projects of Enough For Everyone seek to address fair trade, sweatshops, debt and credit, and energy efficiency. These projects are tools by which congregations can respond to global economic realities from the perspective of Christian faith. Many already are responding in a variety of creative ways. Tell us what your church is doing.

The Connectional Church Making Global Connections

Enough For Everyone opens possibilities for multi-dimensional partnerships. Through the Presbyterian Coffee Project, for example, Presbyterians who buy Equal Exchange's blend of Café Nica coffee are supporting PRODECOOP, a fair trade coffee cooperative in Nicaragua. Through Investing in Hope, Presbyterians support this same cooperative, which holds a loan through Oikocredit.
