World Mission Challenge speakers experience cordial welcome from Presbyterians
Doug Baker, a mission worker who serves in Northern Ireland with the Rev. Kirwin Stewart Jr., pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Holdrege, Nebraska Presbyterians extended a warm reception to World Mission Challenge speakers who traveled across the United States sharing how God is at work around the world through mission personnel and global partners.
A total of 152 presbyteries hosted a mission speaker during the four-week Challenge, which concluded Oct. 19. Forty-six mission workers participated in the Challenge and some were accompanied by international partners, a pilot project done in cooperation with the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program.
They visited communities of every size from small rural villages to large urban areas. Audience size ranged from hundreds in some Sunday worship services to a handful gathered for brown bag luncheon. Read stories from the Challenge and reflections from speakers and their hosts.

Alice Winters teaches and learns from her students in Colombia
The Rev. Alice Winters LOUISVILLE — When Alice Winters enters her classroom in Colombia, she engages her students as both professor and learner.
This veteran Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) mission worker teaches her students about biblical languages and history. At the same time they teach her about a biblical faith that sustains them amid poverty and the violence perpetrated by a decades-long civil war.
“I have learned so much from the Colombian people about what it means to be a Christian, what it means to live out our faith in the real world,” says Winters, a faculty member at Colombia Reformed University in Barranquilla. Keep reading.
