The Reverend Charles Timothy (Tim) and Marta Carriker are PC(USA) mission co-workers seconded to the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil. They began a new assignment in 2007 in Fortaleza, in the northeastern state of Ceará, where they serve at the Fortaleza Theological Seminary. Tim is professor of mission and evangelism.
Tim also works as a missiological consultant, and he is doing research and producing resource materials on mission. He is currently at work on several projects, including the production of a book titled Paul's Apocalyptic Gospel and Ministry. Marta has accompanied numerous short-term mission trips to Brazil by Presbyterian congregations from the United States.
The Carrikers have been PC(USA) mission workers since 1977 ministering all over southern Brazil encouraging the budding Brazilian missionary movement through teaching, writing and conference speaking.
Prior to their assignment in Fortaleza, the Carrikers served in the Missionary Training Center in Florianopolis, where Tim was professor of mission and evangelism and Marta taught linguistics.
From
1993 to 1998, he was professor of mission and evangelism at the
Presbyterian Seminary of the South in the bachelor of theology
and master in missiology programs. From 1997 to 1998, he also
served as chair of the Department of Pastoral Theology at Mackenzie
University, a Presbyterian university in São Paulo. He
now serves as visiting professor at these schools and at South
American Theological Seminary.
From 1977 to 1984, Tim served in camp ministries, evangelism, and new church development
in central and southern Brazil. Then from 1984
to 1992 Tim was co-founder, academic director, dean, and professor
at the Protestant Mission Center, the first institution in South
America to offer long-term training for mission service. |
