In between their service to RVA, the Longs lived in Kokomo, Indiana,
where Jim worked at Kokomo Center Schools, first as a special
education teacher, then athletic director, and most recently from
1989 to 1996 as assistant principal. Kathy has worked as a pastoral
secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Kokomo twice, from 1985
to 1986 and again most recently from 1989 to 1996. Jim and Kathy
are members of First Presbyterian Church in Kokomo. Jim has also
served as a lay pastor at Union Presbyterian Church in Walton,
Indiana, and United Methodist Church in West Middleton, Indiana.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a 1st and 2nd
lieutenant doing drug and alcohol abuse counseling.
Both Jim and Kathy were born and raised in Indiana. Kathy attended
Ball State University in Muncie and received stenographer training
at Indiana Business College in Kokomo. Jim received his BS and
MA degrees in education from Ball State University. He attended
Officers Training School in San Antonio, Texas, and received a
Bible Certificate from Columbia Bible College in Columbia, South
Carolina. Jim has his life license in secondary administration
and supervision from the state of Indiana.
Kathy and Jim are the parents of four adult children, Jonathan,
Jennifer, Bethany, and Zachary.
