The Presbytery of Beaver-Butler

Pennsylvania

You’ll be rewarded in heaven,” was one mother’s response to the question, “Why do I have to (do some unwelcome task)?” Jesus said it this way: “Whenever you give alms, do not sound a trumpet before you.... your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” In this spirit the churches of the Presbytery of Beaver-Butler carry out their ministries.

For some preteens in Crestview Community Church, PC(USA), in Callery, mission and justice go together. When they learned that students in Malawi have to furnish tuition and uniforms in order to go to school, they felt that was unfair. Through their offerings they have made it possible for a young Malawian to attend school, which will improve the future for his whole family. From that beginning they have moved into support for a training and feeding program for children at their congregation’s sister church in Malawi. Their enthusiasm and commitment have led the congregation to greater participation in Christ’s worldwide mission.

Meals of Mercy, a ministry of Jefferson Center Church in Saxonburg, prepares meals for anyone in the community who needs them due to illness or death, a new baby, or loss of employment. Meals of Mercy volunteers prepare and deliver meals that are very gratefully received. Volunteers have an opportunity for fellowship and perhaps some time spent in prayer with the recipients. Jefferson Center Church keeps no record of meals delivered, sets aside no monies in the church budget, and has no formal committee — just a list of volunteers eager to be the hands and feet of Christ.

The Presbytery of Beaver-Butler celebrates the unheralded ministries carried out by its 86 churches and 14,581 members.
