Malissa and Karalynn enjoy game time at Super Wednesday!
In the Presbytery of Lake Erie, Utica Presbyterian Church is a small, rural church in a community where some families struggle to make ends meet and very few attend church. With their pastor, the congregation created an after-school program called Super Wednesday in which children from elementary school walk to the church on Wednesdays to receive help with their homework, enjoy games and music, learn Bible lessons, and share a family-style dinner.
The congregation enthusiastically prepared for Super Wednesday. Church members updated the furniture, kitchen appliances, and audiovisual equipment with the help of a Bold New Initiative Grant from the presbytery. Both members and nonmembers donated toward the hot meals that deacon Judy George prepared. Volunteers became homework tutors, game coordinators, Bible teachers, and table parents.
More than one-third of the children in Utica have been blessed through Super Wednesday. They are praying, hearing Bible stories, and being encouraged by caring adults. The highlight of the program is dinnertime, when the children sit with their table parents and enjoy a tasty and nutritious meal in a festive environment. The children and adults cherish this time as they live out the teachings of Jesus.
In the Presbytery of Lake Erie, 10,865 members of 61 churches do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

Dear Lord, many children are at risk in our communities, without proper supervision or adequate provision. We pray that in your mercy you would protect and guide them. Give your church the energy and creativity to reach out with the love of Christ to meet their needs and share the hope of our faith. Amen.
