Special kids are excited to receive a special bus.
The Barn, an emergent faith community in Macungie, is seeking to embody its credo: LOVE WINS! From its earliest gatherings, the community has been encouraged to live out its life together with the purpose of loving and enjoying God and seeking to love its neighbors with God’s amazing love.
To that end, when a family that fosters and adopts special needs children became an active part of The Barn, the community realized they were coming to worship in two cars because there were ten of them. Three of the children were in wheelchairs, which had to be broken down and reassembled each time. Members of the community said, “We need to do something to walk alongside this family that is reaching out to love God’s kids!” So this newly forming community of sixty-five people planned a “Walk So They Can Ride” event to raise funds to purchase a fifteen-passenger, wheelchair-accessible bus.
On the day of the walk, the air was filled with excitement and anticipation at what the Lord can do through ordinary folk when they are faithful. The Barn community succeeded not only in reaching its $35,000 goal to purchase the bus, but raised an additional $10,000 with which to establish a compassionate care fund for neighbors needing assistance. The event was truly a vision of love in action. God does miraculous work through ordinary folk seeking to love as God loves.

Gracious God, in your kindness you love us beyond our wildest imaginings! We thank you for the rich privilege of sharing that love with those around us. Keep us alert to neighbors who are hurting or facing big challenges. Impassion us to walk alongside them and perhaps make their journey a bit more blessed than heavily burdened. Remind us that you do extraordinary things through ordinary people if we would but put our trust in you. Amen.
