On January 2, 2001, the Rev. Robert Hedges began his first day as executive director of a new ministry he had founded in Washington Presbytery called Resurrection Power. Its mission is to carry the message of God’s love to recovering addicts and alcoholics. Today Resurrection Power owns and operates two spacious homes with twelve occupants each. In Serenity House for Men and Resurrection House for Women, Resurrection Power provides a safe, structured, and spiritually focused environment to support residents in their recovery.
Cheryl S., one of the residents, shared her story: “I was drinking alone a lot and had a lot of shame and guilt about it. I eventually found myself in jail, alone and with thoughts of suicide. I knew I wanted to change my life but I didn’t know how, and I couldn’t do it on my own. Upon leaving jail I attempted suicide. And thus began my journey of recovery from alcoholism. I learned that Resurrection House had room for me, and I thought that kind of life would give me stability because there would be other people around. With God’s help, I could change my life, hold a job, and be responsible to other people. Today, as I celebrate my fiftieth birthday, I have hope that with God in my life and being free from alcohol, the second half of my life will be much more peaceful and happy than the first half!”
Sixty-three churches and 10,904 Christians serve Washington and Greene counties of Pennsylvania in the name of Jesus Christ. Presbyterian-affiliated Pine Springs Camp, Washington Presbyterian SeniorCare, and Waynesburg College are within the presbytery’s bounds.

God I offer myself to Thee — to build with me and to do with me as Thou wilt. Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will. Take away my difficulties, that victory over them may bear witness to those I would help of Thy Power, Thy Love, and Thy Way of life. May I do Thy will always!
