Support Health Ministries
Giving Opportunities
Extra Commitment Opportunities
(ECO) provide ways for Presbyterians—as individuals, through congregations
and other groups—to care for others and to assure
that specific ministries and programs grow and continue.
The following projects are funded with contributions. All
funds contributed to the project go directly to the project
without administrative or other costs deducted.
If you would like to establish and fund a specialized
health related ministry not covered by the following categories,
a new ECO project can easily be established by calling
the National Health Ministries office at 888-728-7228, x5793
or by sending an email
to Health Ministries.
If you have questions or comments, please use the contact
information above. |

National
Health Ministries Web Resources
#E051452 – 15,000 |
|
| |
Congregations engaged in health ministry and parish nursing
often utilize volunteers to carry out this ministry. The National
Health Ministries website supports and assists these volunteers
by providing health related information, stories for bulletins,
articles for newsletters, health alerts and program and training
resources in a timely and immediately accessible format, at
no charge to the congregations. Funds received under this ECO
will enable National Health Ministries to continue to develop
and provide these resources and offer them without charge to
congregations via the website.

Health Ministries for Racial Ethnic Communities
#051449 — $45,000
Your gift will support the development of Health Ministry programs
and resources for the historically medically underserved communities
with significant racial ethnic populations. Information available
today indicates that many medical conditions, illnesses and
diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure are much more
prevalent in racial ethnic communities. Combined with an historic
lack of access to good medical care, congregations serving racial
ethnic communities are in a key position to screen and educate
through active health ministry programs.

church become an even more effective vehicle for meeting those
needs. A gift to this fund will assist in strategically assessing
and addressing the myriad of issues and service needs related
to the health of an aging population. A gift will also enable
National Health Ministries to develop ministry models and through

Youth and HIV/AIDS
#051418 — $15,000
Of all new HIV infections in the United States, 25 percent are
found in adolescence between the ages of 13 and 20. Two Americans
under the age of 20 become infected with HIV every hour of every
day. It is therefore imperative that our youth receive correct
information about HIV/AIDS. This program provides information
about AIDS prevention, equips youth with coping skills to deal
with issues of death and bereavement and introduces theological
reflections on how to treat people living with AIDS. Your gift
will supply funding for HIV/AIDS resources and training for youth
in workshops, Sunday school classes, youth groups and conferences.

Children's Health Insurance
Program Outreach
#051421 — $20,000
Over 11 million children in the United States have no health
insurance. Many of these children are members of our Presbyterian
congregations
and local communities. In 1997 the federal government created
a Children's Health Insurance Program
(CHIP) to give uninsured children and youth access to health
and health-care services. This project will provide information
and resources to individuals and local congregations so that
they can help sign up children for this important program.
