Pray for those touched by war in Iraq

The withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Iraqi cities and towns on June 30 is a time of remembrance and reflection — a time to look to what has been and to ponder what may be. For this day, find prayers from those serving in the U.S. military, from families of those serving in the U.S., from Iraqis and more.

Peacemakers at the Big Tent explored what living as neighbors following Jesus. In the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus teaches that being neighbors is a matter of spiritual relationships as well as geographical proximity. The Rev. Support bold action for Holy Land peace

Painting of a Jerusalem street.

Join major Christian leaders from Catholic, Evangelical, Protestant, Orthodox and historic African-American traditions who have come together declare their support for bold U.S. action and to call for meaningful progress to achieve a just and lasting two-state peace. More than 50 American Christian leaders and congregants of the Catholic, Evangelical, Protestant, Orthodox and historic African-American traditions joined together on this letter, including the Stated Clerk of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), the Rev. Gradye Parsons. This advocacy opportunity is consistent with the action of the 218th General Assembly (2008) calling the U.S. government to assume an “intensive and unrelenting role as a peacemaker.”

The Presbyterian Peacemaking Program was created in 1980 by action of the General Assembly of the former United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America adopted Peacemaking: The Believers' Calling.

The work of the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program is guided by three affirmations outlined in Peacemaking: The Believers' Calling:

  • The church is faithful to Jesus Christ when it is engaged in peacemaking.
  • The church is obedient to Jesus Christ when it nurtures and equips God's people as peacemakers.
  • The church bears witness to Christ when it nurtures the moral life of the nation for the sake of peace in the world.

Our work

For more than twenty-five years, the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program has been helping the church grow in its witness and commitment to peacemaking. We have developed a variety of resources, events and programs that assists the church as it responds to the gospel calling to "Seek peace and pursue it." Our work includes:
