As Christians, we are called to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick and visit the imprisoned (Matthew 25:35-36). The impoverished peoples of the world cry out for the resources that we sometimes mindlessly, though unintentionally, squander. Bringing justice to the poor who hunger and thirst for righteousness as much as for food and clean water is the responsibility of every follower of Christ. In 2008, our International Peacemakers have been carefully chosen to bring the voices of the poor to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Each has been asked to speak and present on the theme of poverty — what this means in the context of their country, and how the Church there is responding to local needs. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about the causes of, and remedies for, poverty in our world.

Who are the International Peacemakers?

International Peacemakers are leaders who are engaged in peacemaking in their own areas of the world. They are invited by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to visit with Presbyterians in the United States and to help us understand the peace and justice concerns of others around the world. This sharing translates into a better understanding of the peace and justice issues in our own communities.

2008 International Peacemakers

Below is the list of International Peacemakers for 2008. Each Peacemaker page contains downloadable information, including forms, photos and other important data. Please share this information with all those helping to plan the visit of a Peacemaker in your presbytery, synod, college or seminary.

Click on the name of your International Peacemaker to view and print off a picture, information forms and other supporting information. Please note: some of the information sent in the host packets is not available online. Additional copies of some resources in the host packets may be available from the Peacemaking Office. What does it cost?

Presbyteries, educational institutions and other entities which host International Peacemakers are asked to pay $400 to the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program, and to provide room, board and ground transportation during your Peacemaker's visit. The Peacemaking Program will make the travel arrangements, purchase the tickets, provide honoraria and health insurance, and inform hosts/hostesses of travel schedules.
