When domestic violence advocates and persons committed to congregation-based community organizing met in Detroit, it was the creative work of the connectional church that made the gathering a success.
Two national church offices, the Small Church and Community Ministry Office and the Presbyterian Health, Education & Welfare Association, PACT and PADVN leadership teams, the Detroit Presbytery, the Synod of the Covenant and the Council of Clergywomen of Metropolitan Detroit pulled together to tackle the issue of domestic violence. Seminaries Consult on HIV and AIDS Action

The Presbyterian AIDS Network (PAN) and representatives from seven PC(USA) seminaries met in Atlanta at Columbia Theological Seminary October 2-4 to consider how we prepare students for ministry in an HIV positive world.
Calling the HIV pandemic the “worst public health crisis in 700 years,” Dr. Donald Messer, professor emeritus at the Iliff School of Theology and executive director of the Center for the Church and Global AIDS, preached at the opening worship for the consultation. Reminding us that Jesus preached compassion and not condemnation, Messer called on our seminaries to train pastors prepared to go forth into the world saying, “God is calling us to do God’s healing, redemptive work.” [Read more]

Winds of Hope, Winds of Healing is is a unique project of music and outreach with a goal of raising funds to benefit mental health, pastoral counseling services and professional chaplaincy in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast area in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
