“Blessed be the Lord God” — Luke 1:68 (NRSV)
“Blessed be the Lord God” comes from the song of Zechariah — celebrating the birth of John the Baptist and announcing the birth of the Christ. It is a song of celebration, gratitude, vision and hope. Music can often express what is otherwise inexpressible. Lyric, rhythm and melody combine to help communicate the deepest moving of the soul. Singing adds a new passion and depth words. For those who offer gifts to God in the context of worship, singing often accompanies the offering connecting their hearts with the act of giving. It is a way for the giver to express his or her love as integral with the offering.
“Blessed be the Lord God” invites congregations to meditate on the biblical songs as they discern their individual and household giving for the following year. It reminds us that all our giving is in response to God’s greatest gift in Jesus Christ.
The 2008 Giving Magazine provides a four-page guide for promoting these theme materials as part of an annual stewardship campaign.
