As Presbyterians join with a grateful nation on November 11 to celebrate our veterans’ service to our country, it is also a fitting time to honor and support our PC(USA) military chaplains who provide a vital ministry to and with those who serve in the military.
While chaplains are called to serve in places where most of us can’t be, we can support them by being in the very places where they most often can’t — that is with their families. Learn more about how your congregation can offer assistance and hands-on ministry support to military chaplains, personnel and their families.
Take note
Former Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) Shelvis Smith-Mather was recently interviewed on CNN about his remarkable year of service in Kenya. Watch a four-minute CNN video clip to see this Georgia minister share how his faith was strengthened by his experience with Christians in Africa.
Earth Day resources for 2010 urge congregations to make wise stewardship decisions regarding their worship space. Plan early — get resources and work with your church to begin to implement changes now to honor God and the earth, and then to celebrate these steps on the Sunday before or after Earth Day, April 22, 2010.
